surprising result

Melanie has had unparalleled success using both her understanding of the industry and seasoned skills as a communications director to promote the UM brand throughout the marketing landscape. Her work has increased the UM brand presence exponentially among many key constituencies and garnered award wins.

Melanie Mitchem joined UM in 2008 bringing almost 20 years of experience from a variety of marketing fields. She is passionate about her goal as Global Communications Director to heighten UM’s brand recognition around the world by crafting messages that convey the unique depth and breadth of UM.

Her success getting coverage of UM’s most notable achievements and thought-leadership on behalf of their clients was a critical component in elevating the UM name throughout the industry as well as led to prestigious accolades such as Advertising Age inducting UM to the “A-list” for agencies and UM being named Adweek’s Media Agency of the Year.

Melanie has extensive experience creating PR programs, which she did at her last position with PHD. Assuming the role of Senior Vice President and Director of Communications was a challenge since there had never been a PR department but by instituting a strong communications strategy across the PHD North American offices, including cross-client partnerships, she established the PHD brand within the marketplace.

Previous to PHD, Melanie worked at BBDO for eight years where she was the Vice President of Corporate Communications. BBDO provided the perfect springboard for Melanie to learn how to develop and execute all aspects of public relations. Her account experience stems from her time with Bonnell Design Associates, a marketing communications company, and McCabe Associates, a cause marketing firm.
